Additional CRS Points Explained
Additional CRS Points award up to 600 bonus points for Express Entry-aligned Provincial Nominations, strong French language proficiency (NCLC 7+), completed Canadian post-secondary credentials, and having an eligible sibling in Canada.

What Are Additional CRS Points?
Section D of the Comprehensive Ranking System awards bonus points on top of your Core, Spouse, and Skill Transferability subtotal (up to 600 combined points across Additional Points and Labour Market Integration, bringing the total CRS ceiling to 1,200).
Provincial Nomination
Receiving a nomination certificate under an Express Entry-aligned Provincial Nominee Program (enhanced PNP stream) adds 600 CRS points—virtually guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply in the next general or PNP round. Base PNP streams processed outside Express Entry do not add 600 points to an Express Entry profile.
French Language Proficiency
Scoring NCLC 7 or higher in all four French abilities (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) on TEF Canada or TCF Canada awards +25 Additional Points if you have CLB 4 or lower in English (or no English test), or +50 Additional Points if you also score CLB 5 or higher in all four English abilities.
In addition to the +25/+50 CRS bonus, candidates with NCLC 7+ in all four French abilities qualify for IRCC’s dedicated French language category-based Express Entry draws.
Canadian Education
Completing an eligible credential at a Canadian institution awards +15 points for a 1-year or 2-year post-secondary program, or +30 points for a 3+ year post-secondary credential, Master’s degree, eligible professional degree, or Doctoral degree.
To qualify, you must have studied full-time in Canada for at least 8 months, been physically present in Canada for at least 50% of the program, and not have studied under a scholarship requiring you to return to your home country.
Sibling in Canada
Having a brother or sister living in Canada who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident aged 18 or older adds +15 Additional Points. The sibling can be related to either you or your accompanying spouse/partner by blood, marriage, common-law partnership, or adoption (sharing at least one parent).
Eligibility Requirements
Note on LMIA Job Offers: Effective March 25, 2025, IRCC removed the previous 50-point and 200-point bonus for standard LMIA-supported arranged employment from Additional Points. High-wage Canadian work and job offer criteria are now evaluated under the separate Labour Market Integration framework.
Practical Calculation Example: Bilingual French + Canadian Study Stack
Amélie (single, age 31, Canadian 2-year diploma, CLB 8 English) takes TCF Canada and reaches NCLC 7 in all four French abilities.
Common Assessment Mistakes
- Claiming +15 sibling points for a cousin, aunt, uncle, or in-law who does not share a parent with you or your accompanying spouse.
- Assuming a 1-year Canadian graduate certificate plus a foreign Bachelor’s degree gives +30 Canadian Education bonus points (the Canadian credential itself is 1 year, so the Canadian Study bonus is +15, even though Core/Transferability uses "Two or more credentials").
- Expecting automatic +50 or +200 points from a standard LMIA job offer after the March 25, 2025 IRCC rule change.
Frequently Asked Questions

Does a sibling of my accompanying spouse count for the +15 sibling bonus?
Yes, if your spouse or common-law partner is accompanying you on the Express Entry application and their sibling is an 18+ Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada.
