CRS Points Guide
Understand how age, education, language proficiency, Canadian and foreign work experience, spouse factors, skill transferability combinations, additional points, and labour market integration determine your Express Entry ranking.
How CRS Points Work
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) assigns every eligible Express Entry candidate a score out of 1,200 points. The first 600 points measure human capital, spouse factors, and skill transferability combinations. The remaining 600 points reward additional criteria such as a provincial nomination, French language proficiency, Canadian post-secondary education, a sibling in Canada, or qualifying labour market integration.

Age Points
Age is one of the largest Core Human Capital factors in the Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System, awarding up to 110 points for single applicants (or 100 points with an accompanying spouse) between ages 20 and 29.
Education Points
Level of education awards up to 150 Core Human Capital points for single applicants (140 with an accompanying spouse), and also unlocks up to 50 additional Skill Transferability points when paired with strong language scores or Canadian work experience.
Language Points
Official language proficiency is the highest-leverage controllable factor in Express Entry: it awards up to 160 Core Human Capital points (136 First Language + 24 Second Language), drives up to 100 Skill Transferability points, and can unlock up to 50 Additional Points for French.
Work Experience
Qualifying skilled work experience in TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupations drives Core Human Capital points (up to 80 for Canadian work), Skill Transferability (up to 100 combined), and Labour Market Integration pathways.
Spouse Factors
When your spouse or common-law partner accompanies you on an Express Entry application, up to 40 CRS points are allocated to their education (max 10), first official language (max 20), and Canadian work experience (max 10).
Skill Transferability
Skill Transferability evaluates how your education, foreign work experience, and trade qualifications interact with official language proficiency and Canadian work experience—awarding up to 100 CRS points across five combination matrices.
Additional Points
Additional CRS Points award up to 600 bonus points for Express Entry-aligned Provincial Nominations, strong French language proficiency (NCLC 7+), completed Canadian post-secondary credentials, and having an eligible sibling in Canada.
Labour Market Integration
Labour Market Integration evaluates your economic establishment in Canada across two distinct, non-additive pathways: Qualifying Canadian Work Experience in High-Wage Occupations (Path 1) and Qualifying High-Wage Job Offers (Path 2).
Core Human Capital Factors
Core Human Capital accounts for up to 500 points (single) or 460 points (with an accompanying spouse). It combines Age (up to 110/100), Level of Education (up to 150/140), First Official Language (up to 136/128), Second Official Language (up to 24/22), and Canadian Work Experience (up to 80/70).
Spouse Factors
When your spouse or common-law partner accompanies you to Canada and is not already a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, up to 40 points are available across Spouse Education (max 10), Spouse First Official Language (max 20), and Spouse Canadian Work Experience (max 10).
Skill Transferability
Skill Transferability awards up to 100 points across five combination tables grouped into three pairs (Education pair, Foreign Work Experience pair, and Certificate of Qualification in a Trade Occupation). Each pair is capped at 50 points and the entire category is capped at 100 points.
Additional Points
Candidates can earn up to 600 Additional Points for an Express Entry Provincial Nomination (+600), French NCLC 7+ proficiency across all four skills (+50 with English CLB 5+, or +25 without), eligible Canadian post-secondary study (+15 or +30), and an adult citizen/PR sibling living in Canada (+15).
Labour Market Integration
Under current CRS rules, Labour Market Integration evaluates two distinct pathways—Path 1 (Qualifying Canadian Work Experience in an eligible high-wage TEER 0–3 occupation at 1.3x, 1.5x, or 2.0x median wage) and Path 2 (Qualifying High-Wage Job Offer at 1.3x, 1.5x, or 2.0x median wage). Path 1 and Path 2 are never added together; the calculator awards only the single higher eligible score.
